apprenticeships

Did you know that you are part of this new government’s ambitious plan

to raise productivity and living standards and to improve the quality of work”?

That’s a quote from Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall earlier this year. The government has a three-pillared approach to support people into work, including a youth guarantee for all young people aged 18-21. It’s backed by UK Youth, a leading charity with a vision that all young people are equipped to thrive and empowered to contribute at every stage of their lives.

Well, that’s what we do at TTE. We recognise that your future isn’t limited by someone else’s expectations. We provide you with an education that will help you pursue a successful career, offering all our trainees the opportunity to gain unique skills and knowledge which will set them up for years to come.

The technical training, life-skills development, and recognised qualifications gained through our apprenticeships offer life-changing prospects for local people. We are steadfast in our commitment of ensuring that every young person who comes through our doors receives a solid start to their working life, which is essential for developing long-term opportunities and financial security.

Back to school – what next?

Now that schools and colleges have returned after the long summer break, many young people will be thinking about “what next?” Some will be looking to find work, others eyeing further study at university and many the prospect of combining the two and earning while learning, ie: apprenticeships.

While avoiding debt is perhaps reason enough to choose the apprenticeship route over university (degree apprenticeships are also available – companies partner with universities and give you the chance to earn a salary while you study), according to education charity SEO London many students are choosing to swerve university because they see apprenticeships as more rewarding and challenging and not just better for the bank balance.

According to SEO London’s head of apprenticeships, Laina Pattini, the ‘active learning’ offered through an apprenticeship is more appealing than making your own way through university.

On the up

It’s borne out by latest stats too. Apprenticeships appear to be on the rise with, according to the government’s figures, 278,590 apprentices starting courses in 2023/2024 with under 19s accounting for more than a quarter of starts (70,020); while the reputation surrounding this route is improving too. The government wants those numbers to grow and is proposing a ‘Youth Guarantee’ to ensure that all 18 to 21-year-olds have access to training, apprenticeships, or support in finding work, and would also include two weeks of work experience for every young person.

So as you ponder your next move next year, consider the opportunities available at TTE and act now.

Our role is not only as an educator, but to empower you, the next generation, to pursue a career in the exciting and ever-evolving engineering and construction sectors where jobs are aplenty and come with the opportunity for high earning potential, qualifications and a ready-made career.

Every young person needs a good start to their working life, to set them on a path of opportunity and security and TTE is your springboard.
