We’ve reached that time when we host our first Open Evening of the academic year. It’s a night when we show off our credentials to turn your heads. In truth, we are an attractive proposition for anyone who attends. It’s a classic ‘show and tell’.
We will tell you everything on the night, but we will share some information now.
We have been rated an ‘outstanding provider’ by Ofsted, since 2017 and they underscored that in 2023, when they rated us as an ‘outstanding apprenticeship provider’, writing:
“Apprentices and learners are highly motivated to achieve and are committed to their studies. They demonstrate exceptionally positive attitudes to their learning and attend well. Apprentices and learners are proud to attend TTE.”
Pride is the word
We are proud of our achievements and proud of those by the young people who attend TTE in Ellesmere Port.
In the latest report, there are key phrases that should give you confidence. For example:
“Training officers have extensive industry experience, which they use exceptionally well to explain key engineering concepts.”
How about: “Learners on study programmes benefit from meaningful work experience, with many securing an apprenticeship.”
And then there is: “Apprentices develop substantial new knowledge and skills beyond the apprenticeship standard.”
Hopefully this will whet your appetite to learn more at our Open Evening, but just in case you can’t attend, we will be writing more about Ofsted’s outstanding findings next month.
In the meantime, please read on.
What to expect and how to prepare
So you have taken the decision to consider TTE Ellesmere Port for the next part of your education journey. The key thing is to go to an open evening with an open mind. It is your chance to find out as much as you can, before you decide to apply.
It’s not enough to make an important decision on reputation alone, nor on the views of others – you need to discover all you can yourself.
You can expect a speech by one of our college leaders and maybe from some tutors and apprentices too, covering all subject areas. And you will be allowed to explore our campus and see our facilities and us ‘in action’.
You don’t need to bring anything with you, nor worry about what you wear, it’s not you on show and you won’t be judged – that’s our privilege!
Ask questions
It’s a good idea to ask questions and you might wish to prepare some in order to find out as much as you can. Listen, absorb, look and witness. Maybe you want to know:
- More about our facilities?
- Our links with industry?
- Time on the curriculum away from the classroom or lab?
- What have former students gone on to do?
- How can we help you to develop as a person?
Everything is on the table, so don’t be shy!
What should you look for?
We want to make a good impression, so we will be ‘spic ‘n’ span’, but it’s a working environment and just hours earlier classes will have been taking place. So scratch beneath the surface – do you find us friendly, professional, welcoming; are we fulsome with our answers, are there people on hand with ‘lived experience’ to give you those insights about workload, social life and lessons and anything else you might be interested in?
But rest assured we also enjoy these evenings. We love to throw open our doors and we have a lot to say about our courses, our £1.8m purpose built training centre, our Whole Person Development programme and our track record.
And we want those who are enthusiastic about pursuing studies (and careers) in electrical and mechanical engineering, laboratory operations, instrumentation and our Whole Person Development, to find out about the journey.
And just so you know, beyond Ofsted, we also have other great accreditations: The British Safety Council rated us with five stars for Occupational Health and Safety and they have also awarded us a distinction in the International Safety Awards. Last year the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) gave us the President’s Award and we proudly have the Investors in People badge.
We hope to see you on Monday November 11th , from 4.30-8.30pm
