Hedy Lamarr
Initially known as a beautiful, talented film star, Hedy was also an incredibly skilled engineer. During World War 2, working as an engineer, she developed a form of remote-controlled communications that went on to become the basis for all WiFi and Bluetooth technology.
Emily Warren Roebling
Known as the woman who completed the Brooklyn Bridge, Emily Warren Roebling’s skill in engineering has helped to keep the bridge stable for the many years since it was first built – and all of this was in the 1800s. With great skills in mathematics and a keen mind, she was able to complete the work her husband had to abandon after he became paralysed.
Edith Clarke
The first ever female electrical engineer, Edith Clarke was a genius at anything electrical, including developing the Clarke calculator for electric power transmission. With a degree from MIT and years of experience at GE, she wrote thousands of papers on electricity and changed electrical engineering as we know it.
